My hubby and I were lying in bed one Friday morning and I asked him what he wanted for dessert for our date night, and he said “Crème Brûlée”. I thought that sounded delicious and perfect since I had a recipe I was wanting to try from Dessert for Two. And surprise to me, my hubby had secretly gotten me a torch for an occasion just like this. He was very excited to use the torch mainly because he loves fire.
What is so great about this recipe is that you can make the custard ahead of time and then torch up the sugar right in front of your guests for a fun dining experience. If you are having a dinner party I think this is a great dessert because it is already finished while you make your appetizers and dinner. And what is even better is that each person gets their own personal serving! You would just have to increase the recipe. This recipe makes two custards. This is a rich dessert so I would recommend serving with fresh seasonal fruit!
A delicious and easy classic dessert for date night!
- 3 egg yolks
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup sugar plus 2 teaspoons
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Preheat oven to 300.
Whisk together egg yolks, whipping cream, 1/4 sugar and vanilla.
Split the mixture between 2 ramekins. Place the ramekins in a square baking dish. Create a water bath by pouring in boiled water so that it reaches half an inch on the sides of the ramekins.
Bake for 50-60 minutes until the sides are set and the centre is still jiggly.
Cool the custards in the water bath and then wrap in plastic wrap and allow to cool in the fridge for at least 8 hours.
When it is time to serve sprinkle 1 tsp of sugar on each custard. Use a torch to caramelize the sugar or put the ramekins under a broiler.
