Am I the only one who thinks that pasta sauce is crazy expensive? Especially considering how you use it for one meal and then it is gone… an empty dirty glass jar. Well I have worked hard at trying to make my own pasta sauce so that I can save myself money and time. I’ve already shared a Fresh Tomato Marinara Sauce, but sometimes I don’t have time to wait for the sauce to cook, or maybe a recipe is already complicated enough that I don’t want to make a homemade sauce at the same time. So now I have Freezer Marinara Sauce! This recipe is from The Magical Slow Cooker. This recipe is super simple and once it is made is stored in the freezer until you need it! It just eagerly waits for you to open that freezer door, reach toward it and embrace it! This recipe filled 4 1L mason jars!
This recipe can be used in so many different recipes! See below for some ideas!
- Spaghetti and Meatballs
- Rose Sauce
- Cheesy Gnocchi Bake
- etc.! The options are endless!
A great recipe to add to your homemade pantry.
- 3 (28 oz) cans crushed tomatoes
- 2 (14.5 oz) cans diced tomatoes
- 1 small onion diced
- 3 garlic cloves minced
- 1 tbsp dried basil
- 1 tbsp oregano
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
Put all of the ingredients into a crockpot and cook on low for 8 hours. Do not open the lid.
Once it is finished cooking, remove the lid and allow the sauce to cool for 1 hour. Once cooled use a ladle to put into storage containers. I filled 4 mason jars and put them in the freezer (make sure to leave room for the sauce to expand).
To use allow the sauce to defrost for at least a day in the fridge.
