For throwback Thursday I decided to re-do this recipe: Heart Waffles. I decided to re-do it as the photos are umm lets say less than desirable. These waffles were classic when I was young for special occasions like holidays and birthdays. What I love about these waffles other than their adorable heart shape is that you can tear them into individual heart pieces. These waffles are also sweet waffles, so if you want the flavour to be a bit more neutral you can reduce the amount of sugar. This is a super fun recipe to serve Valentine’s Day morning for your special someone!
Some of our favourite toppings for waffles are the classic berries and whipped cream like strawberries and raspberries. My favourite are raspberries and my hubby’s are strawberries. They would also be great with bananas and Nutella, butter and syrup, peaches and cream or anything else that may tickle your fancy.
I also like to put a big twist on this recipe by making it savoury. I love to serve waffles with ham or bacon with melted cheddar cheese, sliced tomatoes and a fried egg on top. It is delicious and having the contrast of sweet and savoury is delicious. My hubby took some convincing, but once he took the leap of faith he was very happy (I got a very happy text one morning at school).
